Ground Control, San Luis Obispo-based full-service Internet access network provider, has acquired new technology that gives users portable broadband satellite Internet access anywhere, anytime.
Known as BGAN, the device is a self-contained laptop-sized terminal that delivers up to 492 Kbps of broadband Internet and is small enough to fit inside a laptop case.
The BGAN allows users to set up a virtual office, including phone, Internet and fax services, in just minutes, as long as there is line-of-sight to the satellite. In addition to broadband Internet, the system features a built-in wireless router for computers to connect within 100 feet, such as from inside a building. The terminal also supports phone and fax machines with standard dial-tone and unique phone numbers.
The easy-to-use system connects to the Internet in one to three minutes, providing global coverage.
