Outer Reef Yachts sees increase in orders

September 2009 News

Outer Reef Yachts is reporting an uptick in business from recent boat shows that the company says is running parallel to the general recovery in the global economy.

"The appetite for fuel-efficient, long-range cruisers is growing exponentially in Europe," said Jeff Druek, president and CEO of Outer Reef Yachts, in a statement. "I believe that is a combination of the changing demographics of an aging population and the 'social conscience' for fuel-efficient yachts."

Outer Reef finished with the Seattle boat show Sept. 20, and it was also a success, says Druek.

"We saw many Canadian buyers 'on the hunt,' taking advantage of the strengthening Canadian dollar, as well as many local buyers moving on with their lives now that the economy is recovering. We are negotiating four contracts from the show and are optimistic that we will get most of these to the finish line," he said.

Druek said he expects more success in the U.S. fall shows as the economy continues to improve.

Outer Reef Yachts builds custom yachts from 58 feet to 118 feet and has offices in Fort Lauderdale, Annapolis, and Seattle, as well as Sydney and Southampton.
