Houseboat issue on Okanagan Lake

October 2010 News Matt Folkard - Kelowna

The houseboats issue on West Kelowna waters is going to be decided by the courts.

Keith Newcomb, who is currently moored near Kalamoir Park, says West Kelowna doesn't have the right to be kicking any houseboats off the water.

"We have to have our paper work in by mid-November, to let West Kelowna and the courts know how we are going to approach this. The actual court date will be set after that."

West Kelowna Mayor Doug Findlater says the District has filed a civil suit against the houseboat owners moored on Okanagan Lake.

"I haven't had any complaints about them recently but people do want us to enforce our zoning bylaw, so we'll proceed with that."

Findlater says the issue could be in the court system for a while.
